NEUROMUSCULAR RE-EDUCATION
The use of stretching, strengthening, and specialized biomechanical
exercises to relieve chronic pain by creating new ways of resting,
holding and moving the human body. Neuromuscular reeducation
creates new pathways for the muscles and joints thereby increasing
mobility and promoting pain free, healthy tissues. It is used as an
adjunct to acupuncture and herbal therapies for acute and chronic
pain conditions. It is used, at times, to correct the cause of a
painful condition caused by clear biomechanical and postural
factors.
Treatment may include balance exercises such as one-legged standing
and the progressive use of a wobble board. Tandem exercises along
with a postural challenge may be utilized to evaluate stability. The
individual receiving treatment is encouraged to feel the correct
position of joints and to perceive the direction of movement of the
body extremities.

PILATES
A
method of exercise and physical movement designed to stretch,
strengthen, and balance and center the body. With systematic
practice of specific exercises
emphasizing proper breathing, correct spinal and pelvic
alignment, and complete concentration on smooth, flowing movement,
you become acutely aware of how your body feels, where it is in
space, and how to control its movement.
By developing proper technique, you can actually re-train your body
to move in safer, more efficient patterns of motion – This, coupled
with
the
mind-body awareness promotes healing, stress- reduction, general
health and well-being.
Pilates yields numerous benefits. Lung capacity and circulation,
posture, balance, and core strength are all heartily increased.
Bone density and joint health improve, and many experience
positive body awareness for the first time. Pilates teaches
balance and control of the body, and that capacity spills over
into other areas of one's life. It is a positive form of
movement-based exercise that truly can be tailored to any level
of not just fitness, but also of health.
